Today, June 5th, 2023, is World Environment Day, which is the United Nations Day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment.
It is celebrated since 1972, and more than 150 countries participate in different events to make this issue a relevant topic, not only at a political or governmental level but for people too. There are school activities, special reports on the news, and other ways to raise consciousness. Besides, a balance is made each year of the environmental situation in every country.
This year, the focus is on beating plastic pollution, especially the ones that damage the ocean and the species that live in it, and all the awful consequences of these actions. The host country on this occasion is Côte d’Ivoire, in South Africa.
